Last month, I participated in an Energy Central webinar with XTec, Inc. The subject of the webinar was “How to Improve Security and Reduce NERC CIP Compliance Costs Using Smart Identification”. You can view the recording here.
In case you haven’t seen anything
about this, here’s my brief summary:
1.
PIV cards are the identification
technology used by the entire federal government, as well as the military
(where the term is CAC card). It’s based on a single card that controls your
access to physical facilities and to systems.
2.
You can realize big
security improvements from implementing PIV card use in your organization. Probably
the most important of those improvements can be summarized in three words: No more
passwords.
3.
Along with those
security improvements, you will find that your NERC CIP compliance burden will
be significantly reduced – as I discuss in detail in the webinar.
4.
PIV cards are already
used in all nuclear power plants and almost all federally-owned electric
utilities. So this isn’t a brand-new technology for the power industry.
I hope you’ll watch the webinar!
